The almost complete Phase I construction had its first test as it received11" in rain during one week, nine of which were in a two day period. The cross vane was complete, the J-Hook, although it lacked the "hook" had a complete arm, the most important part of the structure as it is almost primarily responsible for re-directing the highest flow of the channel away from the bank. Now the good news, after visiting the site during flood levels, it was evident that the structures were performing their duties, with the thalweg, or the highest velocity of the channel at least 20' away from the outside banks throughout the bend! The structures held, and the 10% of tree and shrub planting and jute mat material that we were able to complete prior to the rains remained as well.
Check out the video of the flow through the project site:
Good job Joy!
